A gift from a family of former student-athletes will help promote student-athlete well-being on The Farm. Kevin Anderson, ’16, MS ’16, together with his brothers Michael and Jack, have endowed Stanford Athletics’ director of sport psychology position. Dr. Kelli Moran-Miller will be the inaugural Anderson Brothers Director of Sport Psychology.

“We are very thankful for Kevin, Michael, and Jack’s gift,” said Bernard Muir, the Jaquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics. “As former collegiate student-athletes, they each have personal experience with the difference that sport psychologists make. Their generosity ensures that Stanford student-athletes will be supported both physically and mentally as they strive to excel.”

Dr. Moran-Miller, a licensed psychologist and certified mental performance consultant with the Association of Applied Sport Psychology, joined Stanford in 2015. She oversees a program that provides support for teams as well as individual student-athletes. This program is part of the athletics department’s Cardinal Strong initiative, which provides holistic support for Stanford student-athletes.

“I am honored that the Anderson family has chosen to support the sport psychology program,” said Moran-Miller. “In speaking with Kevin, Michael, and Jack, it is clear they value mental preparation and overall wellness as critical components of our student-athletes’ success both on and off the field, and it is fantastic to see this recognized.”

Kevin Anderson was a Stanford football student-athlete from 2011-2015, playing at linebacker. During his time on the Farm he played in one Fiesta Bowl and three Rose Bowls, serving as captain during the Cardinal’s 2016 Rose Bowl victory. In addition, he received both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in civil engineering. He is now a project manager for Anderson Pacific Engineering Construction, Inc., a general contracting firm located in the Silicon Valley, and an MBA candidate at the London Business School.

Michael Anderson played football at Yale University and graduated in 2013. He currently serves as the co-founder of Framework Ventures, a venture capital firm that invests in products and services to enable blockchain technologies. Jack Anderson graduated from Dartmouth College in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in history and also played football during college. He later went on to receive his MBA from Durham University and is now a financial analyst for Dolby Laboratories.

“Playing college football had a huge impact on all three of our lives,” Kevin Anderson said. “It was a time of significant growth and learning but also came with many challenges. Mental health is a topic that has traditionally been left off the football field, and we feel passionate about bringing the conversation to the forefront. We want to help provide resources in this area for Stanford students.”
