Make a Gift of Stock or Other Securities

Give securities from your brokerage account

To transfer securities from your brokerage account to the university electronically:

1. Please complete the Securities Transfer Request form and send it to your broker or financial adviser.

2. Please also send a copy of the completed form to Stanford Gift Securities at stockgifts@stanford.edu, fax to (650) 721-2417, or mail to this address:

How the securities transfer process works

The securities will be transferred directly into the university’s gift account at its brokerage firm. The process works as follows:

• Your broker initiates your gift transfer via the Depository Trust Company (DTC) system, and the shares are delivered electronically to the Stanford brokerage account.

• Dreyfus notifies Stanford Gift Securities that your gift of securities has been received.

• Your gift is considered complete on the date the stock is received in the Stanford brokerage account.

In order for the university to properly credit the gift, it is important that you or your broker notify Gift Securities of the gift and its intended purpose, and that the broker reference your name in the DTC transfer instructions:
